In Japan, there are many ancient cities. Kyoto and Nara being very ancient, Kamakura is also an ancient town.
Kamakura is situated at about 50 km to the south of Tokyo. To the north, east and west of Kamakura are mountains and to the south lies the sea. It is a beautiful and peaceful place with ample of trees and flowers.

Moreover, the Samurai studied Buddhism and Buddhist sutras from China and build many Buddhist temples. Therefore, even today, there are many ancient Buddhist temples in Kamakura.
Kamakura, being a historical ancient town, Japanese and foreigners visit this place in large numbers for sightseeing. During spring and autumn, youngsters visit Kamakura for hiking and during summer, swim and fish in the sea. Kamakura, being close to Tokyo, people visit this place in crowds as a trip during holidays.
The ancient Giant Buddha is situated in Kamakura.The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a bronze statue of Amida Buddha that is located on the grounds of the Kotokuin Temple. With a height of 13.35 meters, it is the second largest Buddha statue in Japan (the largest is located in the Todaiji Temple in Nara). Earlier it was situated inside the temple building. However, about 1500 years, in a large tsunami, the temple building broke down. Since then, until today, The Giant Buddha is not inside any building. Even in the rains, in winds and storms and also in days of pleasant climate, The Giant Buddha receives each person who comes to Him.

日本には古い町が沢山あります. きょうとやならは, 大変古い町ですが, 鎌倉も古い町です.
鎌倉は, 東京の南, 50キロぐらいの所にあります.町の北と東と西には山があって, 南には海があります. 木や花が沢山あって, 静かで, 綺麗な町です.
今から 800 年ぐらい前に, ここで侍の政治始まりました. 長い間, 日本の経済や, 政治の中心は, 西日本にありましたが, この時, 侍たちが強くなって, 東日本に, 新しい政治の中心をつくりました. そして, 侍たちは, 中国の仏経の勉強をして, お寺を沢山建てました. だから, 今も, 鎌倉には古いお寺が沢山あります

鎌倉は, 歴史の古い町ですから, 日本人も, 外国人も, 大勢見物に行きます. 春や秋には若い人たちがハイキングに行きます. 夏には海で泳ぎます. 釣します. 鎌倉は, 東京から近いから, 休みの日には, 人が大勢遊びに行きます.
鎌倉には古い大仏があります.鎌倉の大仏はことくいん寺の場内にあって阿弥陀仏陀の銅像です.高さは13.35メートルあって, 日本である大きな金仏には二番最大です(一番最大のはならのとだいじ寺にある大仏です). 前はお寺の建物の中にありましたが, 1500 年ごろ海から大きい津浪が来て, 建物がなくなりました. 今も, 大仏は, 建物の中にはありません. 雨の日も, 風の日も, 天気のいい日も, 外で人々をむかえています.
